Pembroke Welsh Corgi Rescue

Prepared by the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America Rescue Committee

Breed Rescue

Buster, a rescued Pembroke Welsh Corgi. He now has too many titles in agility to list.

Most Pembroke Welsh Corgis come into rescue because of lack of attention, training or changes in the family situation. The majority of these dogs are two years of age or older. All rescue Corgis are spayed or neutered and their shots are current before being placed in a new home.

Generally, the rescue Corgi is placed in a temporary home for evaluation of temperament, to insure that a compatible match can be made between the individual dog and a new family.

Many of these adopted Corgis have become very successful in obedience, agility, herding and therapy dogs. The Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America, Inc. does not rescue any dogs but provides assistance to their affiliated regional clubs' Rescue Committees.

This is Bug, taking it easy. Bug has titles in obedience, agility, herding and rally since finding her forever home through PWC rescue.

This is Pixie. She was the highest scoring Corgi in the Southern California Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club's Obedience trial. She also has a herding title and Canine Good Citizen award.

TO RELINQUISH A CORGI

Should you have a Corgi you must give up, you will first be asked if you have contacted the breeder (all members of the PWCCA must assist you when they are the breeder).

If you can not locate the breeder, contact the rescue committee in your area. These groups only deal with Pembroke Welsh Corgis and a dog with a history of biting is will not be accepted into rescue.

HOW TO ADOPT A RESCUED PEMBROKE WELSH CORGI

If you think there is room in your home and heart for a rescued Pembroke Welsh Corgi or simply prefer not to go though the puppy stage, consider getting a Corgi from rescue.

The first step is to contact the rescue committee in your area to receive a pre-adoption application. To locate the rescue committee in your area, scroll down to the list of Pembroke Welsh Corgi rescue organizations. Simply contact the one that is closest to where you live.

The next step in our adoption process is to complete and submit your adoption application. The purpose of this application is to insure a compatible match between the Corgi and the new family. The goal is a match that will last a lifetime.

Patti was to be fostered by the people who rescued Buster, who is in the first picture on this page. She fell in love with Buster and they decided not to separate them, so the Hansfords adopted her as well. She also has many agility titles.
